US-based quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain Subway is preparing the snip the curtain on three more restaurants in downtown Sofia, with the slated to open doors in September, Subway Bulgaria manager Ivan Todorov told Dnevnik.

The chain comprises 11 locations countrywide, including six in the capital city. The new launchings take place in the autumn after quieter sales in Sofia in the summer season.

“We are looking for locations in key places on major downtown boulevards and not small neighbourhood streets,” Todorov noted.

He revealed that the chain might add a unit in Sofia’s central Garibaldi Square, which already houses a KFC restaurant. He also admitted that high rents thwarted the company’s plans to set up a location on Slaveykov Square, where a McDonald’s restaurant is located.

“We expect to sign another 24-25 contracts for new locations across the country, but the major part of these will be in Sofia. There will be a new restaurant in central Bourgas, too,” Todorov added.

Subway is also anticipated to set foot in Bulgaria’s second city of Plovdiv, where it is still not present.
